Joanne Hwang
Joanne brings diverse litigation experience to Charles Wagner & Associates in the areas of contract disputes, equity, tax defence, tort claims & complex litigation.
Prior to joining Charles Wagner & Associates, Joanne articled with another commercial litigation boutique. While at law school, she interned with the War Crimes and Crimes against Humanity Unit of the Department of Justice and the Office of the Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel of the Senate of Canada and volunteered with the Civil Section of the University of Ottawa Legal Clinic. In rounding out her international experience, she held positions as a Legislative Assistant in the Legislative Yuan (National Legislative Assembly) of Taiwan, the Republic of China, and as a Research Assistant in preparing for the publication of authoritative essays on the World Trade Organization’s dispute settlement system.
Before commencing her legal career, Joanne worked as a Business Support Specialist at an internationally-based executive search firm. In this capacity she helped place candidates in executive positions throughout Canada and abroad.
Joanne obtained her Honours Bachelor of Arts degree (with High Distinction) from Trinity College, the University of Toronto, where she graduated as one of the top ten students in her year in the International Relations Program, and her Bachelor of Laws degree (cum laude) from the English Common Law Section of the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law. A native of Taiwan and Vancouver, Joanne is fully fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese and has some reading knowledge of Japanese.
